Local Network File Sharing with Kaspersky Internet Security 2009

Posted in Uncategorized on August 23rd, 2008 |  No Comments »

I recently upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, and while being a fantastic program, I did have one problem: I could no longer access my girlfriend’s computer in our local network and vice versa.

The fix is simple, though. This is for Vista, however it should work the same for XP, etc.

1. Click the “Settings” button on the top right.
2. Click “System Security” on the left.
3. Click “Settings” under “Firewall”.
4. Go to the “Networks” tab.
5. On your networking controller (wireless or wired, whichever you’re using), double-click it and change the status to “Local”.

Do this on both machines, and you should be back to sharing!

Brazil To Get 3D TV, Plays On TV That Requires No Special Glasses

Telefónica will begin testing 3D IPTV service in São Paulo, Brazil, later this year. The TV that will be used to view the 3D programming is a 1080p 52-inch Philips 3D HDTV. The TV is auto-stereoscopic which means that watching a show in 3D doesn’t require any 3D glasses.

The major snag in this type of broadcasting is that the Philips TV is the only one that can currently display the 3D shows, and it costs the price of a new car. The current price is 18,000 Euros, roughly $26,000 US. Philips expects the TV to be used in corporate settings for now and that it will be 3-4 years before the price drops and the TV will be commercially viable for the average consumer.

Decodes your Time Clock

An incredibly unique and enigmatic clock, that can be read only when the minute hand passes over the ’coded’ hours. Also provides a good excuse if you happen to always be late… Good Design Award winner of 2004 by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

Apple Can Remotely Disable iPhone Apps

According to iPhone Atlas and iPhone hacker-extraordinaire Jonathan Zdziarski, Apple has readied a blacklisting system which allows the company to remotely disable applications on your device. Apparently, the new 2.x firmware contains a URL which points to a page containing a list of “unauthorized” apps — a move which suggests that the device makes occasional contact with Apple’s servers to see if anything is amiss on your phone.
